The principal's speech:

Fifteen years ago, together with education experts from the Bay Area, I established a team and founded IvyGoal Education Co. From the outset, IvyGoal Education Co. was positioned as a research-oriented educational institution. We focused on developing English learning courseware suitable for Chinese learners. Over the past decade and a half, we have devoted ourselves solely to this endeavor, investing substantial human and material resources. We have developed a complete set of English curriculum software covering various grade levels from elementary to high school, and authored more than 40 textbooks. Our efforts have borne fruit, helping numerous Chinese immigrants efficiently and quickly overcome language barriers.

In January 2023, the courseware we developed received authoritative certification from the WASC of the U.S. Department of Education, making us the only certified English training institution in North America.

In January 2013, Ivy Goal Education Co. established Spilus (Student Partners In Learning), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Over the years, Spilus has provided tutoring and assistance to many homeless and economically disadvantaged students. Especially during the past three years of the pandemic, we have steadfastly provided free online tutoring to many Chinese immigrant students learning English.

The localization of the Spilus:

In 2023, Spilus nonprofit organization leveraged the years of research and development experience of its parent company IvyGoal Education Co. to become a research-oriented institution for Chinese students' "English Bible Study Courseware." We are dedicated to the research and dissemination of "English Bible Study Courseware" tailored to Chinese students.

For Chinese immigrant students, especially those at English proficiency levels 1-5, it is essential that the reading materials' vocabulary level is not too challenging. The study of "English Bible Study Courseware" must be tailored to the corresponding grade level. We make the content of the Bible detailed, story-based, and simplified. The vocabulary in the courseware needs to correspond to the appropriate grade level, with words continuously repeated. To achieve this, we need to conduct extensive and meticulous research. For grades 1-5, bilingual English and Chinese formats will be used, while for grades 6-12, English-only formats will be used. The difficulty of the vocabulary will correspond to the respective grade level, making it easy for students to read and understand, thereby effectively improving their reading abilities without losing the core content of the Bible's truth. Our goal is to develop "English Bible Study Courseware" suitable for students in grades 1-12 within 5-10 years, incorporating grade-appropriate vocabulary into English Bible story courseware and continuously repeating them to facilitate natural memory retention. Students will not need to memorize words deliberately; they can naturally increase their English vocabulary and reading level through reading, post-lesson exercises, and writing. Education will be integrated into learning, combining the propagation of Christian culture with English learning!

Spilus' mission is to "care for and serve new immigrant students and families and preach Christian culture." In the next 5-10 years, we will continuously strive for this mission, investing substantial human and material resources to develop a set of "English Bible Study Courseware" suitable for students of all grades in the United States, catering to the learning needs of Chinese students in grades 1-12 and providing this set of bilingual Bible study courseware for youth to churches and missionary organizations in the United States and China. The purpose of Spilus nonprofit organization is to help Chinese students and adults strengthen their English reading skills while learning English Bible study, gradually allowing Chinese immigrant students and adults to understand Christian culture.

Serving the Community:

In January 2024, Spilus nonprofit organization launched two free courses: English Bible Study (bilingual English-Chinese instruction for lower grades) and Christian Culture Preaching courses. These courses aim to help Chinese youth, especially overseas Chinese immigrant youth, understand Christian ideology and Western cultural concepts better, thereby integrating into American society more effectively.

In the next 5 years, Spilus nonprofit organization will offer free English Bible study courses and Christian culture courses for more than 1 hour per week, better complementing students' English learning, helping Chinese youth and adults strengthen their English reading skills while studying English Bible, subtly allowing Chinese immigrant students and adults to understand Christian culture and establish relationships in love. It is hoped that we can change the cultural and ideological concepts of Chinese people, instilling the cultural genes of "love thy neighbor" and "forgiveness" in Chinese youth's blood, cultivating devout descendants who fear and obey the Lord.

Caring for and serving immigrant students and families, we aim to help these immigrant families master the language tool of English: Spilus nonprofit organization cooperates with IvyGoal English training institutions to provide long-term free English courses for immigrant students and families. In the next 5 years, we will provide free ESL courses of all grades for more than 12 hours per week, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar courses, aiming to help immigrant families reach or approach native language proficiency, freely communicate and apply English in daily life, and strive for excellence!

Origin of Spilus:

Twenty years ago, when I was teaching English, I found that Chinese students studying in ESL classes in schools mostly progressed slowly, taking 4-6 years to move up a grade. The reason for this phenomenon is that school ESL courses are basically designed for European, Hispanic, and other students from the 1960s and 1970s, completely unsuitable for Chinese students' learning. Chinese students in ELD second language classes usually take 200 hours to complete a grade, progressing slowly, and are at risk of being marginalized. Therefore, I made up my mind to change this situation and develop a set of courses suitable for Chinese students' learning.

From its inception, IvyGoal Education Co. was positioned as a research-oriented educational institution. Fifteen years ago, we founded ivyGoal Education Co, the parent company of the Spilus nonprofit. With the help of modern information technology and a team of education experts from the Bay Area, we focused on developing English learning courseware specifically designed for Chinese learners. After nearly fifteen years of intensive research, we have invested a substantial amount of funds to develop a complete set of curriculum software covering various grade levels from elementary to high school and authored more than 40 textbooks. IvyGoal's curriculum is designed and developed specifically for Chinese learners, using the "natural repetition learning method" to make learning easy without the need to memorize vocabulary.

IvyGoal's English curriculum, developed and pioneered, was certified by the U.S. Department of Education's WASC in January 2023 (one of the six recognized international school accreditations to date):

Progress one grade level in just 40 hours, and improve four grade levels in one year;

90% of students can exit ELD ESL classes in one year, surpassing the level of English as a native language in two years.

In January 2013, Ivy Goal Education Co. established Spilus (Student Partners In Learning), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free tutoring services for disadvantaged groups. With the tireless efforts of Spilus nonprofit organization's volunteers (mostly high school students), we have provided tutoring for hundreds of homeless and economically disadvantaged students. Over the past decade, especially during the three-year pandemic period, we have consistently provided free online tutoring for many Chinese immigrant students learning English.

In 2023, Spilus nonprofit organization leveraged the years of research and development experience of its parent company IvyGoal Education Co. to become a research-oriented institution for Chinese students' "English Bible Study Courseware," engaging in the research and dissemination of "English Bible Study Courseware" tailored to Chinese students.

Spilus' Mission:

Spilus Non-profit organizations have a mission to: Caring for and serving new immigrant students and families, promoting Christian culture.

Throughout my more than 20 years of English teaching career, I have felt that many new immigrant parents have expressed that their children face many difficulties in studying and living after coming to the United States. Two main problems faced by many Chinese immigrants after coming to the United States:

The first is the language barrier. Many new immigrant adults or students are hesitant to speak upon arrival in the United States, and language becomes the most significant obstacle to their integration into American communities and campus life. How to quickly reach or approach native language proficiency in English for new immigrant adults or students is a very important issue facing new immigrant families.

The second is cultural differences. The Confucian cultural tradition of the Chinese community is deeply rooted, which is quite different from the Christian-based American culture and Western culture. Understanding American culture, Western culture, and learning Christian culture are the necessary paths for our Chinese community to integrate into American community life. The culture of love propagated by Christianity, the connection between people, and mutual assistance can allow Chinese immigrants to establish relationships in the connected community, receive the warmth of love, learn to "love your neighbor" and "love others as yourself," and better integrate into American community life.

Future Outlook for Spilus:

The "English Bible Study Courseware" developed and produced by Spilus nonprofit organization is led by Teacher Vincent Xiong, jointly reviewed and modified by IvyGoal’s senior American teacher Nick, aims to use the natural repetition learning method to develop vocabulary in a simple and understandable manner, repeatedly helping students remember for the long term! Students do not need to deliberately memorize vocabulary but can naturally increase their English vocabulary and reading level through reading, post-lesson exercises, and writing; the Bible courseware is popular and easy to understand, without losing the core content of biblical truth. By studying the "English Bible Study Courseware," students can understand Christian cultural thoughts and naturally improve their English proficiency!

In the next 5-10 years, Spilus nonprofit organization will cooperate with churches in California to carry out English corner activities, provide free "English Bible Study Courseware" to various churches, and organize free adult English learners' gatherings in church venues once a week. By using English for dialogue and communication, they can establish relationships, encourage each other to persevere in learning, and achieve the purpose of preaching Christian culture, allowing more Chinese immigrants to become Christians.

Looking ahead, we have many tasks to accomplish and require more volunteer support and collaboration from churches and missionary organizations. We hope to receive support and assistance from friends from all walks of life. The dedication and loving donations of volunteers will provide continuous momentum for the future development of Spilus non-profit organization. Spilus hopes to receive your incremental love and support! Everything we do stems from the spirit of loving God and loving others as ourselves, and all glory belongs to God!
